Hettar, Grandmaster Warrior
Folding the parchment neatly and placing it back on the table, Hettar thinks to himself "So Rose wants my life story and that of all its current members for the Tome of KOB. Not a bad idea, it may be of benefit to our future KOB members to know the rich history of its many past and present members"
Placing the carrier pigeon that delivered the message in a cage near the window of his cabin, Hettar then reaches for quill and parchment. Seating him self at the writing table Hettar then leans back in his chair thinking out loud, "Well I may as well make myself comfortable. This could take a while."
Reaching back to memories long past, beyond KOB, still deeper remembering the days of the Scarlet Brotherhood, meeting a young archer by the name of Vega, continuing the journey back yet deeper to a simple time on his fathers ranch in the southern plains of Trinsic, Hettar begins his story…
I can recall vividly the days on my family’s ranch in southern Trinsic. These were happy times and my childhood was a simple one. Daily chores, feeding and watering the many horses raised by my father ‘Cho-Hag’, and the endless hours of playing the great and heroic Avatar. Many a times I saved the world from emanate destruction, facing down the legions of evil single handed. Then I would here my mother calling for supper and I would have to put the evil legions aside, so that I could eat and clean the table.
We were by no means wealthy, but my fathers business of supplying and housing horses for the many adventures that pass through, kept us comfortable and not wanting for much. I knew from an early age that being a rancher was not the life for me. This urge for adventure and fighting the grand battle was firmly imbedded in my mind after hearing my first story of high adventure from one of the many warriors that did business with my father. He would speak of the most dangerous of dungeons and the vile creatures there in, the vast amounts of treasure just waiting for a skilled warrior to find. I would sit in the stables and listen for hours, as these travelers would tell their tails.
Once I was of age I informed my father that I would be setting out in the spring to discover the world and become a great adventurer. I was headstrong and my father knew there would be no talking me out of leaving. So in the spring he gave me a good horse, his old long sword used in the great Trinsic war, a pouch of gold and wished me the best of luck. With that he slapped my horse on the side and I was off.
This was before the great division that separated our world into 2 facets, so I was always on the alert for thieves and killers lurking in the shadows. Many a sleepless night I can remember as I traveled alone. My first stop was in Trinsic’s armory to purchase a rather worn and somewhat rusty set of chain mail, before heading north on the main road leading to Britain. My plan was to make my way over to Vesper as I had heard rumors of frequent Troll invasions on the city. I felt this would be a good place to train my skills as a warrior and possibly make a little gold and a name for myself.
After many battles in the city of Vesper and exploring the depths of near by Covetous, my skills were improving to the point that I was quite adept with a sword. I knew however that if I wanted to venture out into the world and explore the more dangerous dungeons that I would have to do this with a group, for I alone was not skilled enough to be self sufficient in these places. I knew the only answer was to join a guild, so I began reading the message board at the Vesper bank and finally one day I saw a notice to all warriors.
"Hear ye Hear ye!!! The Scarlet Brotherhood is recruiting warriors of all types to come join our guild."
This was it. The next day I ran to the meeting place noted on the board and there sitting casually astride his horse was ‘Rockamon’ Vice Guild master to the Scarlet brotherhood. He was a proud young noble wearing a full set of Gold plate armor. The finest I had ever seen. After briefing him of my skills he welcomed me with open arms into the Guild. A few minutes later others began showing up, three in all, we were young and eager to begin exploring this vast world. It was the second warrior to show up that I knew immediately on site we would become best of friends. He was a little older than myself, dark red hair and carried a crossbow at his side. He introduced himself to Rockamon and then to me.
"Hail and well met, I am Vega".
The brotherhood never grew any larger than 5 or 6 of us at any given time. We had many a grand adventure in the most dangerous of dungeons. Often barely escaping with our lives. During this time in history we not only had monster to worry about, but also dungeon killers. It was a dangerous and wonderfully exciting time. Vega and myself became fast friends; you never saw one without the other by his side. Together we felt we were invulnerable and if someone would have suggested we go wrestle an Ancient Wyrm. Well… hehe. I don’t think we would have given it a second thought making our way for the nearest dungeon. We were truly brothers to the end.
After a few seasons with the Scarlet Brotherhood and my knowledge of the world growing, I soon became aware of the many injustices throughout the lands. Honest hard working merchants frequently being struck down and robbed, renegades running down and slaughtering whole communities. I could no longer stand by and watch. I felt it was my duty as a warrior of honor to fight the noble fight and aid the innocent.
I had heard during my many exploits tails of a Noble Guild that was as old as the land itself, ‘Honor’ and ‘Justice’ was their code and aiding the people of the land was their responsibility. "The Knights of Britannia" I had heard stories about the Knights in taverns around the lands, names of the members would be mentioned in the telling of these stories and I would memorize everyone in hopes of someday meeting them.
A wish soon granted, I was again in Covetous honing my skills at the Lich room when in strode a young lady wearing almost nothing at all and carrying no weapons I knew immediately she must be a very powerful mage. Shortly after her arrival I heard one of the other veteran warriors call her name ‘Fermaldihyde’ a name not easily forgotten I remembered from the many stories that standing before me was a member of KOB. Shaking with excitement I ran up to her and introduced myself, and then quickly asked how I could join this noble guild. Her reply was a simple one, "Meet other KOB members and make yourself known to the guild." With that she also suggested that I frequent the Sandlewood Box Inn, as this was a favorite spot for members of KOB.
The following day I set out for the Sandlewood Box Inn in hopes of meeting a few more KOB and making myself know to them. It was with great surprise that the one person I met upon arriving at the inn was none other than the Guild Mistress herself "Furie". Excitedly I made my way to her table and introduced myself. Making it immediately clear that I wanted very much to join her noble guild. Well to make a very long story short, after a few outings with some of the members of KOB they felt that I had the makings of a good and honorable Knight and welcomed me into the guild with open arms.
Once accepted into the ranks of KOB I knew what must be done next. Going back to my old guild house near Vesper I met up with Vega, excitedly explaining all that I had achieved in the past few weeks and telling him of the long rich history of KOB. I knew that Vega could be one of the greatest Knights to ever grace their ranks and with that we made our way to the Sandlewood Box, so that I could introduce him to Furie. Once again reunited with my brother and now a member of ‘The Knights of Britannia’, I couldn’t be happier.
And as they say, "The rest is history".
